70 AD Considerations
70 AD is the year Jerusalem was destroyed. This was in accordance with the prophecies of Jesus. Matthew, chapter 24 is the most famous passage dealing with this phenomena. While the last book of the Bible was written before this date, 70 AD is yet very significant.
70 AD marked the end of all Jewish worship which was centered around the temple. Important records were destroyed regarding lineage. There was no temple for people to face when they prayed. There was no place for the High Priest to enter to seek atonement for the people. Sacrifices ceased because it was in the framework of the temple that all sacrifices were offered.
Jesus spoke of this important event numerous times while he walked about upon this earth. To Jesus it was not a small insignificant event as most think in today's times. It marked the end of the Jewish age and the absolute end of the Jews as God's chosen people.
Closely associated with 70 AD considerations are fulfillment of prophecy, the study of last days and the anticipation of the pre-70 AD Christians regarding the Jerusalem's destruction.
