SINGING, PRAYING AND MEDITATION
I recall a few years ago when my father died that we had to make a long trip from Michigan to Arkansas. Just as we were leaving a friend gave me some tapes of songs. I listened to those songs or sang myself all the way there. To some this may seem like a strange reaction, but to me singing, praying and thinking are the path out for the emotions within. I sang about heaven, I sang about grief, I sang about God and Jesus and I sang about my Father's love for His children.
When I was asked to speak at the congregation in Arkansas where my father worshipped, I responded with a song service. I was so thankful to have some of God's childern to sing with me. I briefly mention these things so that you know my approach and attitude about singing and song services. I believe that singing and appropriate reflection on the songs builds and unifies congregations. When Paul taught the Colossians to teach and admonish one another by singing with grace in their hearts, in my mind, he was surely talking about some powerful stuff.
These lessons contain a lot of scripture, a little reflection and occasionally some exegesis. I believe these lessons will be uplifting to all those who also worship God by expressing themselves with singing, praying and meditation.
